Former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, one of the candidates to take over Microsoft would consider selling the company’s Xbox business, Bloomberg reports.
Elop joined Microsoft as executive VP of Devices and Studios when Nokia sold its Devices and Services division to Microsoft in September. He is believed to be one of the top candidates to replace departing Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
Citing sources with “knowledge of his thinking”, Bloomberg reports that Elop would consider shifting Microsoft’s focus onto office productivity software. In addition, Elop would also be open to selling or shutting down major Microsoft operations including the Xbox business and the Bing search engine if they were not deemed “critical to the company’s strategy.”
