Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants has resigned from the company. Pleasants had been running Disney Interactive with Jimmy Pitaro, who will remain on-board as president.
“It was a collaborative decision to do what’s right for the business at a time when we have clear momentum,” Pleasants told the New York Times, in part. “It’s complicated to have co-presidents. It doesn’t seem to make sense as a long-term strategy.”
Pleasants joined Disney in 2010 when the company acquired Playdom, where he was CEO, for $563.2 million. Disney Interactive recently announced improved financial figures thanks to the success of Disney Infinity.
“Following three years of consistent operating improvement at Disney Interactive and a great partnership between John and Jimmy, we are now in a position to fulfill our original objective to consolidate our Interactive business under one Los Angeles-based leader,” Robert Iger, chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Co. said, in part. “With Jimmy and John’s input, we have created an Interactive organization that is best structured to meet the demands of the fast-moving technology industry.”
