Pirated copies of the mobile first-person shooter Modern Combat 5: Blackout made its way onto torrent websites this weekend, according to Gameloft the cracked versions originated from an early copy given to contest winners.
“So Gameloft did a contest to win an early copy of MC5, and one of the winners cracked and uploaded it,” Touch Arcade editor-in-chief Eli Hodapp wrote on Twitter. “Now there’s 1000′s of players online.”
“As you can imagine I am really pissed off,” said Gameloft community manager Florian Weber wrote on a Modern Combat Facebook page. “To anybody who got MC5 already, shame on you! We are making games for you and all you can do is pirate them? Anybody which is talking to me and shows in some way that he already has MC5 will get an instant ban.”
Gameloft has also said in a separate statement that it has activated its anti-piracy measures and all “illegitimate users on a non-official version have been incapacitated.” Modern Combat 5 is set to release on June 24th for iOS, Android and Windows 8.
