According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Minecraft creator Mojang is currently in talks with Microsoft regarding an acquisition deal.
The report, citing “a person with knowledge of the matter”, claims that the deal could be worth nearly $2 billion and it could be signed as early as this week.
Both Mojang and Microsoft have yet to comment on the matter.
Minecraft was originally released for PC in 2011 following a two-year long beta period. The game is now also available across several platforms including Android, iOS, Mac, Windows PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. As of June this year, the sandbox title had sold nearly 54 million copies across all the platforms.
