Last week, Sony made the announcement that it had sold Sony Online Entertainment and it became Daybreak Game Company.
Today, Michele Cagle, senior director of global communications at Daybreak confirmed to Game Informer that layoffs had been made at the studio. “As part of a strategic decision to rationalize the business, Daybreak Game Company announced today that it will eliminate positions in both its San Diego and Austin studios,” Cagle said, in part. “This alignment of resources better positions the newly independent studio for future growth opportunities and developments, including delivering on its legacy of making top online games and establishing a solid foundation for future multi-platform success”
David Georgeson, director of development on the EverQuest franchise confirmed on his Twitter that he was one of the employees laid off. Daybreak says that none of its current games, and games that have yet to be released, are affected by the layoffs.
