While most games these days tip the financial scales for their companies and stockholders at $30 million, Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi gave a bit of a jolt to industry analysts when he announced that the price tag of the fan-favorite franchise came in at a whopping $60 million. In a recent interview with auto-magazine Autoweek, Kazunori elaborated on the subject when he said, “There are other games that cost more. Considering the size and scale of the game, I think it’s probably a fairly small amount.” The graphical leap each entry takes alone may have contributed mightily to the title’s high cost. But with over 1,000 licensed cars predicted in the final retail version of the game, the massive figure is not completely without reason.

I’m really afraid for GT5… I don’t think it will get the amount of sales it will need to make up the cost.

You may be onto something there Korne. There’s no doubt it’s an absolutely gorgeous series, but I don’t know if it has the accessibility that they need for that kind of profit.

I don’t know. I know it’ll do very well internationally in Europe and South America but I’m not familiar enough with the series to say if it can make a profit.
Well, not that much considering that Prologue already created a lot of what GT5 uses.
Grand Tursimo 4 has sold 6 million in Europe alone, this game WILL sell.
Also don’t forget that this is the kind of game that will be in bundles for years to come.
No Money in bundles. it will sell. Remember printing a disc and case costs sony about 2 bucks. The retailer probably takes like 10 %. So on each game sold they probably make 40 bucks. 40 times three million copies is 120 million dollars. So a potential low ball estimate of a profit of 60 million dollars is pretty amazing. Even if they spend another 20 million on advertising after that. They are still making a profit of 40 Million dollars. Not very many products out there make 40 million bucks.
Ok, maybe I’m wrong on this one then. If it sells 3 million (which it very well could), than they made their money back and more.
