Sony reported yesterday that it has acquired LittleBigPlanet-developer Media Molecule. The studio will become an official part of the Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS), which also includes Guerrilla Games, Naughty Dog and Zipper Interactive.

SCE WWS president Shuhei Yoshida stated that the “SCE WWS is all about creating ambitious, innovative and ground breaking games, traits that Media Molecule clearly have.  To bring them into our family proves our dedication to creating fantastic new experiences that we believe will cement our position as industry leaders.”

Media Molecule was founded in 2006 by a group of former Lionhead Studios employees and LittleBigPlanet was the first game to be developed by the company. No information is currently available concerning future projects of Media Molecule, though the company continues to provide downloadable content for LittleBigPlanet.
