UPDATE: Remedy has confirmed a “Q1 2012” release window for Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.

As has come to be expected with a Spike TV-affiliated video game broadcast, a lot of exclusive trailers and announcements were peppered into the 2011 Video Game Awards tonight. If you missed the show – we definitely wouldn’t blame you for better occupying your time – follow the jump for our summary of the night’s events, and a full list of the award winners.

What we thought was Alan Wake: Night Springs debuted at the show as Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, although the game is still heading to Xbox Live Arcade as previously reported. Epic Games showcased their new IP, Fortnite, a game of encampment and fort defense against monstrous creatures of doom. The new game long teased by Bioware was revealed to be Command and Conquer: Generals 2, in development at Victory Games. The Last of Us gave up its full debut trailer, divulging Naughty Dog as its developer.

A pre-show NEOGaf leak (via Games Radar) proclaimed Metal Gear Solid: Rising’s new subtitle – Revengeance – and that the hack and slasher is being developed by Platinum Games (Bayonetta, Mad World), with Kojima Productions maintaining an unspecified amount of control over the project. And in the show’s only true surprise, Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD was unveiled, taking “select” levels from the first two Pro Skater games (like “School” and “Downhill”) and slapping some HD on them for a Summer 2012 digital release.

Trailers for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 revealed a Fall 2012 and Holiday 2012 release date, respectively. New media spots for Hitman: Absolution, Mass Effect 3, and Rainbow Six Patriots offered little information, but quite a bit of pretty. And finally, the awards show has already sparked its first rumor, as a script Joker holds during his acceptance speech for “Best Character” seems to hint at the title to Batman: Arkham City‘s sequel: Arkham World.
