Sega announced that it will be publishing The Cave, the new adventure game from Ron Gilbert (Maniac Mansion, The Secret of Monkey Island), which is set for a release sometime in early 2013. In development at Double Fine (unrelated to the studio’s now famous Kickstarter project), The Cave will release digitally on Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and PC, keeping in line with the developer’s retooling of their release strategy back in 2010. Sega’s Senior Vice President of Digital Business Haruki Satomi stated that the release is the first part of the publisher’s plan to focus and expand its own digital gaming catalog.
“The concept of The Cave has been bouncing around in my head for many, many years, and then the little voices that tell me to do things said it was time to make the game.” said Ron Gilbert, “I’m thrilled to be working with amazingly talented folks at Double Fine and ecstatic that the team at SEGA believes in adventure games and quirky ideas.”
