Blizzard Entertainment along with Legendary Pictures has signed Sam Raimi to direct the upcoming Warcraft movie. Raimi as written, produced and directer several box office hits with the SpiderMan trilogy being the most notable.
In the official press release both Blizzard and Legendary officials describe Raimi as the perfect match for the Warcraft universe and quote: “knows how to simultaneously satisfy the enthusiasts and the mainstream audience that might be experiencing that content for the first time.”
Along with Raimi several other big names will have their hands in the project, in particular Blizzard Entertainment’s Senior Vice President of Creative Development Chris Metzen will co-produce the project along side several Legendary Pictures in-house producers.
Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad choice? Isn’t it a universal truth that the Spiderman movies are less then great?
What I’m more worried about is that Blizzard might try to get even more people into Warcraft with this movie, rather than really making it a pure extension of the lore they already have so far.
Not trying to say they can’t do both at the same time, but they could damage the ‘brand’ of Warcraft pretty seriously for the hardcore fans if they make this a really mainstream thing.
