Westwood, MA – Following the success of Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar (2007) and the first expansion for this game Mines of Moria (2008), Turbine Inc. has announced today that later this fall they will release a new download-only expansion. The game, which will be referred to as Volume III in the series, was given the subtitle Siege of Mirkwood. More details can be found after the break.
The second expansion will include the final chapter and epilogue to the previous volume in the series, Mines of Moria. In addition to this new content, players will also be traveling further east where even more new content awaits them. The level cap will be raised to accommodate players up to level 65. An all new “Skirmish Mode” will be introduced as well, which allows groups of players to fight in instanced battles alongside NPCs, over which the players will have control. Finally, besides a large amount of gameplay improvements, the expansion will feature several new dungeons in which players will explore Dol Guldur, the Ringwraith fortress.
