Publisher THQ has confirmed that a sequel to the apocalyptic hack ‘n slash game Darksiders is currently in development and expected to be released in 2012. THQ declined to reveal further information, and it is therefore unclear whether the game will once again feature War or any of the other riders of the Apocalypse. It is also unclear whether the game will tie into the popular Apocalyptic myths surrounding the Mayan Calendar, which generally assume that the end of the world will occur in that particular year.
The original Darksiders was released in January earlier this year and was developed by Vigil Games, who is also developing the sequel. For the first game, comic-book artists Joe Madureira fulfilled the role of creative director.
