Sony Working on 3G Portable Device

3G has become the new money phrase in the cell phone business, with every carrier leaping at the opportunity to attach 3 or 4G functionality to all of their products. While gaming has long since shied away from 3G in favor of Local Wi-Fi, but a report out of The Wall Street Journal is showing that Sony is focusing on bundling some new gaming-centric hardware with 3G functionality.

“Sony is developing a portable device that shares characteristics of handheld game machines, e-book readers and netbook computers, according to people familiar with the matter. Some Sony e-book readers already come with 3G connections but it is not clear if a new wireless gadget will use carrier networks…”
