Following the recent launch of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, the second expansion to World of Warcraft, in mainlan China, Activision-Blizzard has announced that currently more than 12 million players are subscribed to the MMORPG. This number exceeds the number of inhabitant in countries such as Belgium, Greece, or Cuba.

This number may be expected to grow soon, as the third expansion to the MMORPG, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, is set for a release in Western territories on December 7th. It is currently unclear when this expansion will be released in China.

  1. The WoW population has remained pretty stagnant for a while now. It was 11.5 million in October of 2008.

    That’s probably why they’re making an expansion pack that redoes all the “old world” content that Classic-BC players (who quit) have fond memories off. It’s a good move to drag those players back in, even if it isn’t long term for many of them.
