Two days ago we reported that Beenox’s next game in Activision’s Spider-Man franchise would have its reveal party this coming weekend. Turns out, no one could wait that long. Spider-Man: The Edge of Time has reduced the number of playable spideys from Shattered Dimensions‘ four to two: the viciously melee Spider-Man 2099 and the colorful original Amazing Spider-Man, both having to team up as time itself goes crazy and threatens the universal future.

Vicharin Vadakan, Director of Activision’s Global Brand Management office, claims the Beenox is team is looking for a “fresh and different approach” on the webslinger formula, with various developers within the company promising nondescript innovations on the gameplay. Spider-Man: The Edge of Time is slated for release this Fall, no platforms have been announced.

“We want to create a totally distinct experience in Spider-Man: Edge of Time by working with [comic writer] Peter David on the story and creating this urgent, high-stakes experience where time is working against you and the fate of Spider-Man hangs in the balance,” explains Dee Brown, Beenox studio head.

  1. As long as they avoid the annoying first person combat segments that plagued shattered dimensions… I’ll be up for giving it a try.
