It all started with the launch of Carmageddon.com, registered in tandem with Square Enix Europe (who owns SCi, the original game’s publisher), more than hinting at the release of a new title in the famed vehicular combat series. A countdown timer placed on the site is ticking down to 5am on June 1st. Despite being legally associated with the Square Enix brand, a source close to VG247 claims that the publisher no longer has any rights associated with the IP. No other company has laid claim to the reboot yet, but many are expecting Stainless – the original studio behind the project – to step up from download titles like Magic: The Gathering and return to their roots.
