It’s rare for a game with Pokemon in the title to not be what you expect, but the indelible franchise’s first outing on Nintendo’s 3DS won’t have you obsessively capturing and battling creatures, at least not in the way you are used to. Pokemon Rumble Blast (tentative title) – sequel to the WiiWare’s Pokemon Rumble – plays out more like a beat-em-up with toys, think “Gotta Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em All”. The game supports StreetPass functionality (automating battles between your Pokemon and those of whom you pass), and two-player wireless bouts.

Pokemon Rumble Blast is coming for 3DS, as a full retail package, on October 24th.
