Bethesda and parent company Zenimax Media have had a lot of numbers to tout since the release of the latest in its Elder Scrolls franchise. Skyrim has shipped (not sold) 10 million copies across all platforms since launch, the game had the second highest sales of November, and it was only 500,000 copies away from besting its prequel’s lifetime sales by the end of its first month on shelves. But now Valve has weighed into the post-release statistics with a surprising announcement.
Jason Holtman, Valve’s Business Development Director, was recently quoted as saying that “Skyrim is the fastest selling title in Steam’s history.” Given the digital distribution platform’s eight year history of big PC game releases, including Valve’s own, this is a pretty impressive accomplishment, despite Holtman not specifying the company’s parameters of “fastest selling title”.
