Bethesda sent out a brief press release earlier in the week to let the media know that Prey 2, it’s Human Head Studios-developed future FPS, has been delayed past 2012. No updated launch window was provided, with the company stating that the development for the game “has not progressed satisfactorily this past year”. In its current state, the software reportedly “does not currently meet [Bethesda] quality standards.”
Bethesda’s diction here does not paint a kind picture to Prey 2‘s development so far, but the studio expressed its determination to see a return on their “substantial investment” and fan anticipations. So while we do not suggest counting Prey 2 out yet, we wouldn’t be surprised if this delay could turn into a full on re-tooling of the game from the ground up. Expect production updates to be slow, at least until early next year.
From what I’ve heard, no one has touched the game since November, which is a shocking since the game looked pretty good at the current build. I will be the first to say I am not a fan of Bethesda, especially as a publisher.
