MCV reports that THQ announced during a recent investor’s call that Devil’s Third, currently in development at Tomonobu Itagaki’s Valhalla Game Studios, has failed to meet the company’s ‘profitability profile’ and that the publisher is therefore seeking another party to take over responsibilities for the game. More details after the jump.
Devil’s Third was announced shortly before E3 2010 and was scheduled for a release in early 2013. It is currently unclear what THQ’s position means for the continued development of the title, as the game supposedly makes use of the same engine as Darksiders 2 – an engine that is fully owned by THQ. It was not stated during the call whether there are any parties interested in acquiring publishing rights to the game.
The third-person shooter has been in development since Itagaki left Tecmo in 2008, with his team consisting of several other former-Team Ninja employees. Devil’s Third is in development for the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360, with a potential release for the Nintendo WiiU having been hinted at in the past.
