Rumor: New Slim PS3 to be Announced at Gamescom?
06 Jul, 2012
New documents filed with the Federal Communications Commission seem to indicate a new, slimmer PS3 model destined for the market. Images from the documents (Pocket News) mention CECH-4001x for a model number, which would be the next logical step for the PS3 hardware, which is currently known as the 3000 series. The documents state that the “x” is a placeholder variable that will be eventually be replaced with alphabetical indicators of different hard drive space amounts. Eurogamer‘s report on the documents suggest that a Gamescom announcement of the new model is likely.
This wouldn’t be the first time Sony has slimmed up the Playstation 3 for an appearance in Germany. Back at Gamescom 2009, Sony revealed both a new PS3 Slim SKU and a price cut down to $299.
