TrionWorlds 17 Aug

MMO publisher Trion Worlds confirmed to Polygon on Thursday that it is closing its European headquarters.

A Trion representative said 12 employees will be laid off as a result of the closure of the Guildford, U.K. office. The employees affected include Trion Europe senior vice president and general manager John Burns, communications director Jon Goddard and commercial director Jeff Pabst. PR manager Gary Burns and senior brand manager Dominic Wai will also be affected.

“As part of its recent company realignment, Trion’s European publishing office based in Guildford, U.K. will be closing down,” the company’s statement reads, in part. “European localized versions of Trion’s live and upcoming games will not be affected as all regional game development and support continues from Redwood City, Calif.”

Trion was hit with a round of layoffs in May, as it transitioned into a post-launch phase for its sci-fi MMO Defiance. Trion also announced earlier this month the appointment of Scott Hartsman as its new CEO, and the closure of its San Diego studio.
