Miss me?

Love it or hate it, Silent Hill handily made back its surprisingly high $50 million budget and then some at the box office in 2006, opening at the #1 position in the US domestic box office. Now, in an interview with FEARnet, Silent Hill‘s (as well as Resident Evil: Afterlife‘s) producer Don Carmody confirms the pre-production of a sequel.

“We have always been cognizant of that — we can’t make the movies just for gamers.  Of course, we always run the risk of incurring the wrath of the gamers — who are very vocal,” said Carmody. “I did Silent Hill and we are planning a Silent Hill 2 — we were getting hate mail for that one.”

“The games have progressed, and are more cinematic now.  In fact, the games are taking a bit from us as well,” said the producer, commenting on the convergence between games and movies.  “They are using our sets and characters; we are using some of their storylines… things like that.  We’re probably a little closer to the game now than we were with the first film.”

Are you in the love or hate camp with Silent Hill‘s movie debut? Where could the sequel go with the franchise? Pitch your ideas below!

  1. I’m definitly in the love camp. I thought the acting was phenomenal (except for the cop) and they definitly got the atmosphere down, the writing was mostly good though the end bit with Alma laying everything out was a bit lazy.

I know a lot of people hated this, so I’d like to know why cause I just don’t get it.

  2. It was a decent movie, better than the Resident Evil movies. It could be good, just as long as they make the world more creepy as hell then it would do lots. Cause as the first one turned out, it wasn’t that scary at all.

    1. Am I the only one who thinks the Silent Hill movie was just as scary as the games? In other words not all that much. I could be because I’m desensitized to the point of no return, but I really don’t play (and love) the Silent Hill games because they’re all that scary. Silent Hill isn’t Project Zero, everything that happens isn’t designed to scare you, it’s designed to mean something, to tell a story. Sure there are things that happen that do appear to be designed to scare you, but these are very few and far between, and to be honest mostly the worst parts of the game.

      1. I think that could be the case. I haven’t played much of Silent Hill so I am not one to say whether the game is scarier than the movie or whatever, but I want to play the games to see. The movie wasn’t all that scary at all, just a bit creepy but that is about it.

  3. It was a good movie with a pretty morbid ending… this will make a lot of people not like it.
