Valve has just revealed all of the PS3 exclusive features of its upcoming game, Portal 2. Gabe Newell, managing director of Valve Software, had previously hinted at the fact that the PS3 version would be the superior console version with incorporation of Steamworks and other technology. The full list of PS3 features can be found after the jump.
A short press release from Valve confirms the features to be cross platform multiplayer and chat between PC/Mac and PS3, cloud-based storage of PS3 saved games, and, most importantly, a free Steam Play (PC & Mac) copy of Portal 2 when gamers link their PSN and Steam accounts. Newell was quoted as saying
“We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product. Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases.”
I hope I am reading this correctly. If I buy a PS3 copy, and connect my PSN and Steam account, I get a free Portal 2 for PC? That is awesome. However I prefer the PC version of Valve games because of the controls, but it is nice that there will be cross platform chat seeing as how there are very few games that do that.
That’s how I’m reading this… but I dont really care to play it on my PS3. Should I still buy it for the console?

You know, I am not sure. On one hand if you buy the PS3 version you get the PC version for free (the superior version off all the systems). However on the other hand PC sales of Portal 2 will be down, and that isn’t really good for the PC market (insights idiot flamers that think PC gaming is dead and stuff). Well you get two versions of the game for one price, so it seems good. Besides you can get Steam Achievements and then Trophies for PS3.
I think if you play it on the PS3, you will get both the trophies and achievments, since they are using the Steam Cloud (aka, you can bring your save game from PS3 to PC and vice versa). At least, I think it will happen like this.
I hope that is the case, as I would play it on PC and then get trophies for free. Best of both worlds.
