Cologne, Germany – Tim Schafer, founder of Double Fine Productions, revealed new details surrounding Brütal Legend at the EA Press Conference today.
He started by explaining why album covers of 80’s Rock and Metal albums were such an inspiration to the developers and why they were used to bring many details to the game. Basically, he argued that before the Mp3 player was invented, people were limited to the same room while they listened to their favourite music and therefore only had the covers of the album to look at while they listened. As time progressed and music became more mobile, these album covers became of less importance.
He also detailed three weapons which are used in the games. First he named an Axe, known as ‘The Separator’. ‘The Clementine’ is an electric guitar owned by the main character, Eddie Riggs, and is able to unleash pyrotechnics on enemies. The Clementine can be upgraded by purchasing new guitar strings. Finally, Schafer detailed ‘The Deuce’ also known as ‘The Druid Plow’. This car will function as a transport vehicle but will also be outfitted with weapons such as chain guns as the game progresses. Players will also gain new abilities when teamed up with a wide array allies, with each ally adding unique abilities that utilize both characters. In the game these are known as ‘Double Team’ attacks.
Schafer once again confirmed a October 16th release date for Brütal Legend, but also announced that a demo for the game will be released on Xbox Live and Playstation Network on September 17th.
Additionally, a new trailer for the game was released, which can be found below.
