Ubisoft Toronto have cut the torture scene from Splinter Cell: Blacklist that was shown during Microsoft’s press conference at last years E3. The player-controlled scene involved the protagonist, Sam Fisher, stabbing an enemy in the throat with a knife, and twisting it as a form of interrogation. Andrew Wilson, producer of the game, explained the change, “We’ve scaled a lot of that back, and as we’ve gone through the process of development there are always things that you feel are not working as well. Every game does this, and cuts certain things. That scene is not there any more. I’ve not really heard anyone say they loved it.”
Andrew has also mentioned that Blacklist is more of a traditional stealth-heavy Splinter Cell game, but because they were at the front of Microsoft’s conference at the show, they decided to demo a more action-oriented sequence because “it’s quite hard to get the value of a stealth play through in that environment.”
