CD Projekt RED has officially announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This announcement comes shortly after its cover page (above) on the next issue of Game Informer was leaked NeoGAF.
The game world is said to be 20% bigger than that of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (and a whopping “30 times bigger” than Witcher 2) one that would take about 30-40 minutes to traverse on horseback. Series protagonist Geralt of Rivia no longer suffers from amnesia, and will be wandering the world solving mysteries and slaying monsters similar to his role in the original novels. The game’s choice architecture will broaden further from previous installments, to the point that even a decision to not to do a quest could have a large effect on the story-line. Crafting will be a big part of the game, with new cloth simulation technology giving each piece of armor a unique appearance. Every combat move can now be interrupted to dodge or block, and there will also be many objects in the environment Geralt can interact with for his advantage.
The press release announcement confirmed Wild Hunt will be the final episode of Witcher series. Adam Badowski, studio head at CD Projekt Red, elaborated, “…we believe that we should end the series on a high note. Technology has progressed to where we can finally tell the story the way we want, with the visuals we want, in the world we imagined. This will be the ultimate fantasy RPG experience, and while we’re hardly out of stories to tell, we believe it’s time for us to look to new worlds an new horizons to keep pushing the boundaries of what we can create.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released sometime in 2014, simultaneously on all “high-end platforms” (likely meaning the next generation of home consoles).
