Electronic Arts is discontinuing its Online Pass program, a spokesperson has told GamesBeat. “Yes, we’re discontinuing Online Pass,” EA Senior Director of Corporate Communications John Reseburg confirmed, “None of our new EA titles will include that feature.”
In the past, titles such as Madden NFL and Battlefield 3 have utilized the Online Pass, which is a one-time use code that allows the user to access many of the game’s online features, including multiplayer. If the game is being played on a different console that the code was activated on or the game was bought used, then a new code must be purchased to access the online features.
“Initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn’t respond to the format,” Reseburg explained. “We’ve listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward.”
“We’re still committed to creating content and services that enhance the game experience well beyond the day you first start playing.” he added.
