Ubisoft has indefinitely suspended production on 1666 following the firing of Patrice Désilets, CEO Yves Guillemot said during an investor call on Ubisoft’s 2012-2013 earnings report today.
“After more than two months of discussions with [Désilets], we couldn’t align our vision both on project development and team management,” Guillemot explained, “so consequently our collaboration has ended, and we have suspended 1666 for an undisclosed period of time.”
After helping to create the Assassin’s Creed franchise as Ubisoft’s Creative Director, Désilets left the company in 2010 and joined THQ Montreal in 2011, where he worked on 1666 as creative director. In THQ’s bankruptcy auction in January, Ubisoft acquired the THQ Montreal studio and its intellectual property for $2.5 million. In March Ubisoft announced that Désilets had returned to Ubisoft.
Last week however, Ubisoft released a statement saying Désilets and the company had parted ways after “good faith discussions”, but Désilets later claimed it was not his decision to leave and that he was actually fired by Ubisoft. Ubisoft has released no statement regarding Désilets’ latest claims.
