According to a report from GamePointsNow, the next entry in the Borderlands series is called Borderlands: The Pre-sequel and is set in the five year gap between Borderlands and Borderlands 2.
The site claims the game is being developed by 2K Australia and will take place on the moon of Elpis and Hyperion’s H-shaped moon base that can be seen orbiting Pandora in Borderlands 2. The moon setting also means that Elpis has reduced gravity, and players will use jetpacks to get around the moons surface. Oxygen is also limited and players will need to loot Ox-Kits. It is said you will also be able to shatter enemies’ helmets to immediately deprive them of oxygen.
The site claims that the new playable characters are Athena The Gladiator, Willhelm The Enforcer, Nisha The Lawbringer and Fragtrap. Athena appears in the Borderlands expansion The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, Willhelm is a boss in Borderlands 2 and Fragtrap is said to be a militarised Claptrap robot.
Two new weapon types will also be introduced, including laser weapons and a Cyro class of guns, allowing players to freeze and shatter their enemies. GamePointsNow also believes a 2014 release is likely, and it will come to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
