Ubisoft has announced that Watch Dogs has gone gold, ending the game’s five and a half year development to an end.
“It’s official. Watch Dogs has gone gold, and is right on track for worldwide release on May 27, 2014,” reads a post on the Ubiblog, in part. The Ubisoft team will continue working on the game’s season pass DLC and updates, but the code has been finalized for the retail release and is on its way to distribution centers.
“It’s exciting to be gold,” creative director Jonathan Morin said, in part. But it’ll be more exciting when people are playing. For the fans it means that it’s true. It means there will be no such thing as another delay. But for us, it’s not done until they actually have it in their hands.”
Watch Dogs was initially going to be a launch window title for next-gen platforms, but was delayed in October 2013 until Spring 2014. The worldwide release date for the game is now May 27th for the PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4. In April, Ubisoft confirmed that a Wii U version of the game is expected to be released in fall 2014.
