Undead Labs announced last year that it would be releasing State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition, which would include all of the State of Decay DLC as well as updated visuals.
However, when the studio began clearing up the visuals, they realized that the contracted help used for the game had hid a number of genitals within the game’s backgrounds. “Some of our contractors worked a ridiculous amount of genitalia into the background,” said Geoffrey Card, Undead Labs senior designer. Due to the lower resolution and lower quality textures of the original release, the images passed through testing unnoticed and ended up in the final game.
Microsoft has also offered a statement on the matter: “Undead Labs was not aware of the textures in question until they began the process of exporting textures for State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition, and they are not visible in the original edition of State of Decay,” said a Microsoft representative. “Undead Labs is no longer working with the contractor in question, and this material will not be present in State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition.”
In addition to cleaning up the backgrounds, State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition will improve the game’s textures, reduce the object pop-in and give a more dense feel to the game’s world.
