‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’ Confirmed for February 2013

In a blogpost over on the Official SEGA Blog, Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford has announced that Aliens: Colonial Marines is currently set for a release on the 12th of February, 2013. The has been delayed multiple times so far, with publisher SEGA having announced a tentative release date of Fall 2012 only a few months ago. More details are included after the jump.

38 Studios Pays off Rhode Island, Governor Gives MMO Release Date

The second time’s the charm for 38 Studios. The developer’s second $1.125 million check sent to the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation cleared late last week, fulfilling the first payment on the company’s $75 million loan. The state believes the totality of the $49 million portion given to the studio has been spent, their next payment due on November 1st at $2.6 million.

THQ Not Publishing ‘Devil’s Third’

MCV reports that THQ announced during a recent investor’s call that Devil’s Third, currently in development at Tomonobu Itagaki’s Valhalla Game Studios, has failed to meet the company’s ‘profitability profile’ and that the publisher is therefore seeking another party to take over responsibilities for the game. Blizzard Issues Statement on ‘Diablo III’ Server Issues

Players around the globe have been encountering server issues rendering Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo III unplayable due to a need for constant internet connection, an issue the company released a statement apologizing for earlier today. In addition to proclaiming that all Battle.net problems causing the widespread lack of connectivity have been resolved, Blizzard announced that it will be delaying the game’s real-money in-game auction system back a few days to May 22nd.

38 Studios Fails to Pay State, Employees

38 Studios’ check to the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation was returned due to insufficient funds, according to local news outlet WPRI. The $1.125 million owed by the Curt Shilling-backed studio was the impetus for the company’s default on May 1st, as per a 2010 loan agreement. Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee stated that the EDC will still accept the late payment if the studio can procure the funds.

Activision v. EA Settled

A settlement agreement has been be filled by both Activision and Electronic Arts, a little under two weeks before their case was to go to court. The move comes one day after an appeal for a 30-day postponement of the trial by Activision lawyer Beth Wilkinson was denied. The agreement removes EA from the list of defendants in the larger case between the Call of Duty publisher and former heads of Infinity Ward, Jason West and Vince Zampella.

‘South Park RPG’ Delayed

Earlier in the week, THQ announced they were delaying Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming RPG based on “South Park”. Pushing back release from “sometime in 2012″ to Q1 2013, no reason was given for the delay. But an earlier rumor did point to a possible subtitle for the game: The Stick of Truth.

‘Tomb Raider’ Delayed into Next Year

Ubisoft Announces ‘Avengers’ Title for WiiU and Kinect

‘DOTA’ Trademark Dispute Resolved

The fight for the name DOTA seems to have come to a close. Blizzard Entertainment released a statement late last week concerning their ongoing battle with Valve Software over the trademark, both studios having games in development attached to the lucrative namesake. According to Blizzard, Valve will continue to develop DOTA 2, and Blizzard’s own sequel Multiplayer Online Battle Arena will change its name from Blizzard DOTA to Blizzard All-Stars. The House of Craft will retain the non-commercial rights to the name for its user-generated StarCraft II and WarCraft III communities. No further details of the settlement will be disclosed, according to Blizzard’s statement.

Rumor: Microsoft Adding Full Internet Browser to 360?

While Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is arguably the most connected console in terms of multiplayer servers and multimedia licensing agreements, the device has remained steadfastly closed for anyone wanting to browse outside the system’s service library. According to The Verge (same team that broke the $100 Xbox story), such a constraint may be lifted soon. According to unnamed sources, Microsoft will be making available a full Internet Explorer 9 experience on the console with Kinect support.
