Yesterday, EA announced that in collaboration with DC Comics and comic publisher WildStorm, a mini-series of comic books will be released based on the Dante’s Inferno universe. The series will officially be revealed at the Comic-Con International, which is set to take place between the 23rd and 26th of July in San Diego. At this conference, a special preview edition (dubbed ‘Issue 0’) of the series will be given away to visitors of the DC Comics and EA stands. The series will be illustrated by Diego Latorre, known from the ‘Incredible Hulk’ series, and Christos Gage, who worked on the ‘Xmen / Spiderman’ and ‘Wildcats’ series.
In cooperation with Film Roman, a subsidiary of Starz Media, EA will also release the first trailer for a full-length animated feature movie based on Dante’s Inferno at the Comic-Con, set for release alongside the game. In the past, Film Roman has created the movie adaptation of another EA franchise, Dead Space: Downfall in 2008. The studio also worked on X-Men Evolution, the first season of Family Guy and has been involved in the production of The Simpsons since 1992.
Dante’s Inferno is a ‘hack ‘n slash’ game set for release in 2010 on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, combined with an adaptation for the Playstation Portable. The game is based on a 14th century poem that tells the story of a crusader who travels through the 9 rings of hell, each of which represent increasingly important Sins. The game works from the first ring of Hell, which contains all those who were not allowed entry to paradise as they were not baptised or did not repent for their sins, to the absolute center of Hell, which contains Lucifer himself who is being punished for his treachery against god.
