To commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Elder Scrolls series, Bethesda Softworks today announced that the second installment in the well-known series will be available for download free of charge on their website. The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall was released for MS DOS in 1996. Similarly to other episodes in the Elder Scrolls series, the gameĀ focuses heavily on the freedom of choice and allows the player to take their own path through the available missions in the game.
Five years ago, at the tenth anniversary of the series, Bethesda made the first game available for free, The Elder Scrolls: Arena. This game is still available on the elderscrolls.com website.
Since both games were originally released for MS DOS, it is possible that neither game will function appropriately without an emulator on modern computers. It is advised that the games are played by using an emulator.
The most recent instalment in the series, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was released in 2006 and while last October a Bethesda executive hinted at a possible new episode set for 2010, no official statements have been made regarding the continuation of the series.
