At the VGA ceremony last night, EA and Bioware presented the first teaser-trailer for the third and final installment in the Mass Effect trilogy. The trailer showed London overrun by Reapers, and Commander Sheppard overlooking the planet from orbit.

EA confirmed that the game will be released in time for the 2011 holiday season, and that the game will be released for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on the same date. The original Mass Effect was exclusive to the Xbox 360 and the PC, with the sequel expected to be released for the Playstation 3 almost a full year after it was released for the PC and Xbox 360.

At this time, Bioware and EA have made very little information available concerning the third installment, and it is unclear how the ending from Mass Effect 2 will carry over into this episode. It was possible for players to complete the second game in such a way that the main protagonist would not survive the final battle, and Bioware previously indicated that a large number of choices made throughout Mass Effect 2 would affect the final game.

  1. Sounds awful. A freaking galaxy full of bizarre creatures and uncharted planets to explore and they set the game on boring, grey, european Earth…

Fits perfectly the de-RPGization of the series.
