A report from PSM3 (thanks CVG) is saying that Sony Santa Monica is staying true to its “end of trilogy, but not end of franchise” rule they stated at the end of God of War 3. According to the magazine’s sources, another game in the Spartan action series will make its debut in September of 2012. No further details for the game have been given at this time.

“PSM3 has heard from another source that God of War 4 is coming, and will hit in September 2012,” PSM3 reports. “Our source works closely with the God of War universe, and let slip he’d be working on a related project at the same time.”

Looking forward to more epic hack-and-slashing, E-Gs? Or was God of War 3 a sufficient end to the franchise for you? Comment below!

  1. The series was good, but it should stay done. There isn’t much they can really do with it, without diluting the formula any more (first had the best narrative and the third had the best graphics).

It would be nice if they did an entirely new franchise, but keep it in the same hack n slash formula.

  2. I’ll reserve judgement until I hear what is happening. Without knowing who the protagonist will be, where the story will take place, what timeframe it will be in, what pantheon may be involved, etc…. I can’t really say whether I’m excited or not.

I would certainly be interested in more GoW style games, as long as they take the lessons learned prior to GoW 3 to heart. GoW3 had the best gameplay by far.
