Following several teases that were published in recent months, Square Enix and IO Interactive have officially confirmed the next installment in the Hitman-series: Hitman: Absolution. A teaser-trailer for the game shows the iconic Agent 47 applying a silencer to his handgun, as well as a snake wrapped around a pistol. The teaser suggests more information will be revealed at E3, with Square Enix having confirmed that the game will be shown to press at an invitation-only event. The teaser trailer and additional details are included after the jump.

According to information that has been published by Square Enix, Hitman: Absolution will follow Agent 47 as he is betrayed and must take on a personal mission in order to survive. IO Interactive has indicated that they will be exploring other parts of the Hitman universe in this title, which may imply that the studio is attempting to revive the franchise as a larger, continuing series.

Hitman: Absolution is set for a release in 2012 for PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
