Bioware has annouced that the third installment in the Mass Effect franchise will be released at an unspecified date in the first three months of 2012. The game was originally scheduled for a release during the holiday season. Bioware has not provided a specific reason for the delay. The announcement, as it was posted on both the official forums and the Facebook page dedicated to the series, can be found after the jump.

On the official Bioware forums, Chris Priestly, who is the community manager for both the Dragon Age and the Mass Effect franchises, posted the following message:

Today we have confirmed that Mass Effect 3 will be released in the first three months of 2012. The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations.”  said Casey Hudson, Executive Producer Mass Effect series.

For the first time in the history of the franchise, Mass Effect 3 will be released for PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 simultaneously.

  1. I don’t mind the delay too much because it seems like when Bioware is rushing they come up with games like Dragon Age II. While it is still fun, it pales in comparison to the original.

  2. Good to see they’re learning from past mistakes. The news of this along with The Old Republic constantly being pushed back is good to hear. Hopefully this discipline in not rushing (creating inferior products) is a sign of BioWare returning to aspects that made it so successful for so many years.

  3. NOOOO!!!!! I am delayed serious awesomeness!

Well, at least Bioware is a developer that knows how to use an extra three months of dev time, I’m confident the wait will be worth it.
