Blizzard Raises over $1.9 Million for Quake Relief
03 Aug, 2011

In a post on the World of Warcraft blog, Blizzard announced earlier today that more than $1.9 million has been raised for the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami relief fund of the American Red Cross. This amount was raised by selling an in-game Cenarion Hatchling pet, which was available for $10. The fundraiser started early May, and lasted through July 31st. The full proceeds of the sale of this virtual item have been donated to the American Red Cross.
The numbers suggest that over 1.9 million users have purchased the virtual item. The item is currently still available in the Blizzard store, though future revenues will not be donated to the relief fund.
