Mafia-II_2009_12-22-09_01 08 Aug

A report out of claims (according to Eurogamer‘s own English translation) that a sequel to the heavily storied third person shooter Mafia II (our review of which can be found here) is in development for the next generation of consoles. Originally planned as a launch title for the new hardware, production had to be pushed back as developer 2K Czech had to recoup losses after layoffs of approximately 40 staff last year.

2K Czech had previously been rumored to be working with Rockstar to polish up cinematics and gameplay for Grand Theft Auto V, with the hopes of turning Mafia into a franchise of similar success in the process. No comment has been made by 2K Czech or its parent company on any of the aforementioned rumors as of yet.
