Ubisoft Red Storm has joined Massive Entertainment to bring realistic weapons to Tom Clancy’s The Division, according to a post on the Ubisoft blog.

Ubisoft communications manager Gary Steinman said that Red Storm was a perfect fit for The Division because of its experience with titles such as Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. Red Storm also has an entire team which focuses on weapons design. “I, personally, have been doing it for about six years now,” said Lead Weapons Designer JD Cragg, in part. “One of the guys on my team has been doing it for almost nine.”

“One of the huge benefits that we have is our connections with the local military,” said Red Storm producer Tony Sturtzel. “We’ve had manufacturers come in and literally disassemble the entire weapon all the way down to the nuts and bolts, and our guys are taking hi-res photos of those things.”

“We probably have unparalleled access to these types of things because of our authenticity department and their focus on relationships. We’re not ever gonna let the cat out of the bag on some of the relations we have!”

The Division is a massively-multiplayer role-playing game set in New York after terrorists unleashed a pandemic, causing anarchy throughout the city. Ubisoft announced earlier this year that Ubisoft Reflections is also joining Ubisoft Massive to co-develop the title.
