GLaDOS fans rejoice, for Valve has descended from their Bellevue Washington headquarters via press statement, confirming the existence and eventual release of Portal 2. Sequel to the universally acclaimed puzzle-platformer portion of the company’s 2007 collection The Orange Box, Portal 2 is set to release this holiday season as a full priced, full-length title. While platforms are still unannounced, expect the game to hit the same consoles that Orange Box landed on, making PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 versions likely. More details will be revealed to the public at next week’s Game Developer’s Conference.
Gavin, PC and 360 are guaranteed, PS3 is up in the air.
Can’t wait to see what they put in there. Also, I want to see when HL2:Ep.3 will be released, I hope they are packed together, just like in the Orange Box.
Also can’t wait to see what comes out of GDC! EP. 3 anyone? It has only been 2.5 years since the last release of an HL game.
Merely making a journalistic estimate at this point. While the PS3 port of Orange Box was by far the worst, it sold well enough to merit a disc installment on the console. True, the digital versions of Portal and its expansions didn’t make it on the PSN, but disc production cost and the change in PS3 install base/profitability would make it a dumb move on Valve’s part not to make a version.
Not for sure, hence the hesitant rhetoric, but it would be a surprise if it wasn’t.
Well, let’s put it this way, Valve is unsure about the PS3. They said they are hiring people that know how to work with the PS3, but it is unsure at this point. But I know what you are trying to get at; if the previous installment was on the console then it must be on said console, that doesn’t work all the time though. With Valve and the PS3, you have to be cautiously optimistic.
Oh yeah, Valve’s (specifically Gabe Newell’s) distaste for the console is well known, but we’ve both brought up enough good points as to why it might still arrive on the PS3. With Valve though, be it release schedules for Half-Life or console controversy, I’m always cautiously optimistic ^_^
YAAAAAY
This is a triumph.
I’m making a note here–HUGE SUCCESS
It’s hard to overstate my satisfaction.
