MirrorsEdgeReboot 09 Jan

Mirror’s Edge writer Rhianna Pratchett has confirmed on Twitter that she is not involved with the Mirror’s Edge reboot.

“It’s really lovely that people care to ask whether I’m involved with Mirror’s Edge 2, but I’m not and wasn’t asked,” Pratchett wrote, in part. “Let’s face it ME1’s story didn’t review that great (for many reasons). So I consider myself a casualty of that development process.”

“By all accounts it’s a new team on it, so go with God, I say. Create cool stuff. We always need more of that,” she added. Pratchett also said that she was limited by the fact that too much of the game had already been designed before she came in and that “The script got hacked up at the 11th hour due to a decision to remove all of Faith’s level dialogue.”

TokiTori2 09 Jan

Toki Tori developer Two Tribes is “rebooting”, according to a new blog post on the company’s website. In the post, co-founders Martijn Reuvers and Collin van Ginkel revealed that the studio as it was, no longer exists.

“[In] the last two month of 2013 our office has been largely empty. There was no fun to be had, just co-founders Martijn and Collin taking care of the business end of things,” the post reads, in part. “In this case the ‘business end’ can be taken quite literally. The old Two Tribes, founded in 2001, doesn’t exist anymore and we had to send everyone home.”

The post also adds that the studio’s parent company, Two Tribes Publishing, is unaffected by this and all Two Tribes games will still be available to purchase. Reuvers and van Ginkel have also founded a new daughter company which will handle development of future games for Two Tribes Publishing. It’s first game will be a 2D side-scrolling shooter, being built on the Toki Tori 2+ engine.

“We know it has been a rough couple of months for everyone involved, most of our natives spent between four and nine years of their lives at Two Tribes,” the post continues. “We want to take this opportunity to thank – in no particular order – Eelke, Hessel, Meinte, Marco, Jeroen, Paul, Jay and Shan for being super understanding and showing true character by sticking with us until the very last moment.”

“You guys and girl have been the backbone of Two Tribes for many years and for us it feels like saying goodbye to friends instead of co-workers. You’ll be missed! We hope that you land safely at some awesome company of your choosing!”

Evolve 07 Jan

Turtle Rock Studios has revealed a new co-op shooter called Evolve, which is the February cover story on Game Informer.

Turtle Rock Studios is the developer behind Valve’s co-op zombie shooter Left 4 Dead, and also worked on Counter-Strike Source.

Evolve will feature four player co-op, with the addition of an extra player who will have control over an alien. This alien will evolve throughout each match, resulting in it becoming more powerful. The game is said to be a mix of cooperative and competitive multiplayer.

Evolve is currently expected to be released during Autumn this year on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

MLB2K13 07 Jan

2K Sports has revealed it will not develop the next iteration of its MLB 2K series this year. It has also removed the series from its website, and deleted the series’ Facebook page, suggesting the publisher is done with the series. Digital versions of MLB 2K games are also no longer available.

“We have decided not to renew our MLB 2K series for 2014,” a 2K Sports representative told Polygon. “We are very proud of the achievements made by the MLB 2K team and look forward to their contributions to our future titles, including NBA 2K – our industry’s #1 rated and #1 selling basketball franchise.”

Non-Sony platforms will not have a baseball game this year as a result, since Sony Computer Entertainment’s MLB 14 The Show is the only baseball game announced for this year.
