No UMD Passport Program for the States
09 Feb, 2012
While never officially promised by Sony, the UMD Passport Program for the Playstation Vita (where gamers can upgrade their old PSP games to digital Vita copies for a small cost) had made the headlines multiple times during its early months in Japan, leading many to assume its eventual migration to the West. However, Kotaku has received an official statement from Sony that the conversion program will not be made available in the United States.
The program was launched in Japan alongside the Vita itself last December, where it received a lukewarm response. That same month it was reported that several major publishers passed on the program entirely, leading many to question its long-term staying power.
