While not providing a specific launch date, EA CEO John Riccitiello has stated that Battlefield 3 is set to take on the competition with Activision’s competing FPS-franchise somewhere during the second half of 2011. He indicated that EA will focus on third-party titles like Crysis 2 and Bulletstorm during the first half of the year, and then solely focus on Battlefield 3 during the final half. He further added that he’d be surprised if EA didn’t manage to “take a notch” out of Activision this year.
It is unclear when the multiplayer beta for the game will launch. Free beta codes were given out to consumers who pre-ordered the EA-developed first-person shooter Medal of Honor. Even though Battlefield 3 is being developer for the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360, developer EA DICE has indicated they are putting additional effort into optimizing the PC version.
Hell yeah, shooter of the year 2011, calling it!
Multiplayer-shooter of the year, most likely… but I actually think Crysis 2 might be a good contender as well, though probably not in terms of multiplayer-quality.
I’ve been waiting for this for almost 6 years now. Hopefully grenade spamming won’t be so rampant as in Battlefield 2.
