DDR Returning to Xbox

After a 4-year sabbatical from the brand, Konami’s DanceDanceRevolution is coming back to Xbox. The popular music-rhythm franchise has been absent from Microsoft’s console space since the original Xbox, but will be making a Kinect-supported return to the console on its (now multi-platform) Q1 2011 launch. Aside from the expected future DLC-support, the disc offers “a vast song roster with 20 licensed tracks from some of today’s hottest musicians, and more than 30 original songs by Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.’s original artists.”

Teen Arrested After Call of Duty Cyber Attack

An unnamed Manchester 17-year old was recently arrested in a case concerned with a service attack that downed some Activision servers hosting Call of Duty sessions. The e-crime was reported back in September, and used a tool called a “Phenom Booster,” which stalls other user accounts to raise the user’s own score. The teenager was discovered via a traced IP address, and is currently in Manchester police custody until further legal action – likely to be in connection with the Computer Misuse Act – can be determined.

Gran Turismo 5 Sells 5.5 Million, Franchise Ships 60 Million

Looks like Polyphony Digital’s reported 2,000-day production cycle paid off, as the latest in the Gran Turismo driving simulation franchise has made some serious numbers. In a little over two weeks on store shelves, Gran Turismo 5 has sold over 5.5 million units worldwide. While not Call of Duty figures, the statistics do push the total sales for the franchise over 60 million units since its 1997 Playstation launch. No further sales information has been released at this time, but more can is expected once the calendar year ends.

Mass Effect 2 Confirmed for PS3 Release in January

BioWare has confirmed that Mass Effect 2 will be coming to the Playstation 3 on January 17th, almost a full year after the game was launched for the Xbox 360 and PC. The original launch was on January 26th, 2010, but the game was originally considered a Xbox 360-exclusive.

The Playstation 3 version will include all of the currently released DLC, as well as an interactive comic that will supposedly influence the story of Mass Effect 2. It is currently unclear if this interactive comic will serve as a replacement for the storyline contained in the original Mass Effect. As this original installment was never released for the Playstation 3, it would be impossible for decisions made in the original game to be carried over without some additional content to cover these choices.
