505 Games, in their partnership with Rolling Stone magazine, have announced today the development of a new music-rhythm game exclusive to the Nintendo Wii, Rolling Stone: Drum King. Set to release this spring, Drum King will utilize the wii-mote and nunchuck to have players rocking out like some the world’s greatest drummers. No word yet on compatibility with either Rock Band or Guitar Hero drum peripherals. Players can either rock through the single-player campaign, or challenge a friend to a drum duel, playing a variety of remade tracks inspired by some of the greatest artists.

“For more than 40 years, Rolling Stone has been a staple in the voice of American music culture and entertainment and we are pleased to collaborate with 505 Games as we venture into video games for the first time,” said Will Schenck, Publisher of Rolling Stone magazine. “With more people playing console video games than ever before, this was a natural next step for the Rolling Stone brand.”

“We’re thrilled to be working with a music and entertainment pop culture icon to bring some of the greatest music in rock ‘n’ roll history to this game,” said Adam Kline, president of 505 Games. “This partnership with Rolling Stone puts 505 Games at the forefront of the growing crossover between music and video games on one of the hottest gaming platforms available today.”

Activision hopes to bring a new take on the racing genre with Bizarre Creations’ latest title, Blur, set to release this autumn on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The new IP drops players into intense 20-car races, all gunning for the finish line and the various power ups along the track. Tracks range in locales from Barcelona to San Francisco, and players will control photo-realistic cars as they trade both defensive and offensive maneuvers in attempts for the gold.

“We did our homework and saw a huge opportunity to move beyond traditional racers and create a game completely focused on making racing ‘fun’ again,” said Martyn Chudley, creative director, Bizarre Creations. “Blur delivers a new style of racing experience for all gamers, regardless of their experience, skill or genre preferences. Everything the player does, both in their cars and with their cars, is a dramatic adrenaline rush; it’s a real blast!”

“We know that racing can be fun for everyone, and we are excited to enter this genre with a game that keeps players in the pack and combines fun with intense racing battles,” said Maria Stipp, EVP and GM of Owned Properties, Activision Publishing. “Bizarre Creations is one of the most creative studios in the industry with a rich heritage of top-rated racing games and we are excited to partner with them on Blur, which is set to break the mold of traditional racing games.”

Aside from the traditional gameplay dressings of the genre, Blur will ship with a unique, social network-esque interface. Players can interact with other racers globally, acquire fans and rivals, and compete in different races that invokes responses from  the game’s layout itself. Races can be up to 20 players online, or four player split screen. Players can create their own multiplayer modes, which will then be shared on the worldwide server for all players to experiment with.

Video game accessory manufacturer Nyko Technologies announced today that their highly anticipated “Wand” controller for the Nintendo Wii has reached store shelves and is now available. Containing all the basic motion-control technology of the regular wii-mote, Nyko’s latest model hopes to give a more comfortable feel and smoother action to the controller design. The “Wand” contains the company’s new “Trans-Port” technology, which enables vibration feedback from in-game actions to be electronically replicated on all compatible attachments, which should improve input accuracy. Enlarged ‘1’ and ‘2’ buttons, as well as an ergonomic finger-hold grooves, should also aid in the gameplay experience, making the controller easier and more comfortable to hold and swing. The “Wand” retails for $35.

“Recognized as Best of CES 2009 in the Gaming category, the Wand offers all-new features and accessories that improve the way players experience games on Wii,” said Chris Arbogast, Director of Marketing, Nyko Technologies. “Gamers can also look forward to two new Wand-compatible accessories next month that are just the beginning of the innovative ways Trans-Port technology will be used in the future.”

Hello fellow Elder-Geeks!

In case some of you missed it, our webhost crashed our forum database yesterday for the second (and final) time. So last night we switched to a more secure host with better forum stability. The news is going to continue as usual. Gavin has some big news coming up tonight and Elder-Speek is going to be released on time. Right now our index page is down because we haven’t finished switching over our database.

Mats is plugging away on re-fixing our forums and we should be back at full strength in no time!

Thanks for your patience everyone!
