Rumor: PSPGo To See $50 Price Cut?

In a move lauded as common sense by as many analysts as the reasons they are giving for it, Sony has dropped the price of the Go! iteration of its Playstation Portable handheld line. Lowing the suggested retail price from $250 to a straight $200, reports are suggesting the drop could come into effect as early as October 15th. As expected, Sony’s official reply to our queries here at Elder-Geek have been the usual “we do not comment on rumors and speculation.” But given both the impending launch of the 3DS and the confirmed existence of a PSP2, there is motivation a plenty for the price cut.

Tony Hawk Dev Sees Huge Lay-Offs

Robomodo, the studio behind Tony Hawk: Ride, has reportedly been forced to lay off 30-60 team members due to the game’s poor performance. The game sold only 114,000 units in its first month and was panned universally by critics, including Elder-Geek. The studio still has the sequel to the project, Tony Hawk: Shred, which is due out later this month.

Visceral Games Unsure About Dante’s Inferno Sequel

While both sales figures and reviews for Visceral Games’ Dante’s Inferno were above the expected average, the studio isn’t sure a sequel would be a secure investment. There are currently no plans in either the studio or its publisher EA to begin production, but representatives from the company say that there is still opportunity for another title in the future.

NPD Announces Data Reporting Overhaul

Major changes are coming to the industry’s go-to resource for sales figures. The NPD Group has announced some sweeping changes, effective immediately with the release of the financial data of the month of September. Representatives from the group have stated that the changes were “implemented in order to address the changing sales landscape as well as updates to NPD’s corporate publishing policies.”
