What Midway Games was hoping would start a high-price bidding war between companies turned out to be their only shot at purchase when Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment’s late-May bid of $33 Million turned out to be the studio’s only offer. Rumors and reports abound about many developers and publishers waffling on an offer, but no concrete ones were made in the alloted time, the desired auction having to be cancelled due to lack of interest. The company’s back catalog will significantly fill out Warner Brother’s relatively weak video game department, possibly also useful to the company on the movie and TV show licensing front. Midway marks the third company buyout from Warner Brothers, an unsuccessful attempt at British development Eidos also part of their recent business aquisition plans.
